1 day guided Surf Coast walks
Your choice of walk from stunning coastal settings to cool temperate
rainforest experiences. For example:
Bell’s Beach to Anglesea (12km -6 hours)
This trip follows the stunning cliffs from this world-famous surf break
along the Marine National Park to Point Addis. From there the walk takes
you along a magnificent beach and through National Estate-listed heath-land
to the delightful coastal hamlet of Anglesea. You might spot an echidna
or a kangaroo. Migratory birds roost here after their flights to the
northern hemisphere.
Anglesea to Aireys Inlet (8km 4hours)
Walk along the pristine beaches of the Southern Ocean where surfers
catch the raw ocean swells. You might catch a glimpse of the endangered
Hooded Plover nesting at high tide or spot an Emu Wren. Fairy Penguins
nest here. Then walk along the stunning cliff-line to beautiful Aireys
Inlet. You could tour the historic lighthouse built in 1890 and hear
tales of the early light-keepers and the many shipwrecks.
Aireys Inlet to Eastern Beach
Stride along the stunning Fairhaven and Eastern Beaches, stopping to
take in an elevated vista at Eastern View. Watch hang-gliders soaring
or horse- riders along this superb stretch. Note the fascinating architecture
along the way. Stop to beach-comb and perhaps peek into a rock-pool
at the Eagle’s Nest Marine Sanctuary. Brilliant anemones, sea
stars and the occasional octopus can be seen.
Lorne
A diverse range of trails takes you through cool rainforest and luxuriant
fern gullies. Choose from a climb through a stunning canyon, or old
logging trails showcasing the early settler history of the area, or
riverside paths meandering through various forest types, to stunning
waterfall treks.
- The Canyon- Henderson Falls – Phantom Falls (easy
-8kms 3 hours) traverse eucalypt and rainforest sections,
past ancient mountain ash and tree ferns before experiencing the cool
canyon –possibly home for the Wautherong people in winter months.
- Erskine Falls to Straw Falls (hard -7kms 3 hours)
This walk includes several river crossings. Walkers need to have previous
experience. Catch a glimpse of a shy platypus or lyre-bird.
- St George River - Teddy Lookout (easy -5kms 2hours) Lookout
over Southern Ocean, spot a fairy wren, a koala
or the amazing laugh of the kookaburra as you travel the former logging
mill track route before experiencing the fantastic ocean view.
- Kalimna Falls (easy -8kms – 3 hours)
Luxuriant rainforest walking to two beautiful waterfalls.
- Cumberland river to Castle Rock and the Sheoak Falls (medium
-11kms 5-6 hours return) Some river crossings and rock hopping
–previous experience required) Trek along the Cumberland River
passing magnificent sheer cliffs to Cumberland falls, a series of
cascades and then to Castle Rock and Sheoak Falls.
